Itakun to so agbe’ a conversation between the drums and the drummers laced with concealed messages depict the unrestrained relationship between the inanimate with the beating of the African drum. The message therein embodies the language of leather skin with the drummer; the ability to communicate the message of hope and togetherness in the newly awoken spirit of Africans through drums. A concept composed by the literary giant Professor Oluwole Soyinka choreography while the dramaturgy designed by Seun Awobajo.
The performance takes us on ten minutes long performance with every passing second serrating through the air, a clarion call to see beyond the clusters and look within for an inspiration. Itakun to so agbe’ literally means ‘the tress joined to a calabash’. It can be analyzed as the child holding on to the legacy of the past.
